For years, we have witnessed a perpetual revolving door for criminals who get arrested and immediately released back into our streets.
Meanwhile, I have had the privilege of doing ride-alongs with the Joplin Police and law enforcement officers. As a result, in talking with the officers from departments across our region, I have learned of a serious issue plaguing our Jasper County communities.
I’ve asked law enforcement one simple question: What is the biggest challenge facing law enforcement today?
The answer has been remarkably consistent.
The revolving door of our criminal justice system.
Time and again, officers have expressed frustration that they put in the hard work to investigate crimes, make arrests, and build strong cases… only to see crimes not prosecuted and repeat offenders quickly released back into our communities. When criminals aren’t held accountable, the same offenders often return to commit more crimes, leaving victims to suffer all over again, and our law enforcement officers becoming exhausted as their hard work in making our streets safer seem unwinnable and pointless!
We see the effects every day. Businesses struggling with theft and vandalism. A growing homeless crisis intertwined with addiction and mental illness. Drug activity impacting our neighborhoods. Families wondering why the same offenders seem to be back on the streets again and again.
Our law enforcement officers cannot solve these problems alone.
We can recruit and retain the best police officers. We can provide competitive pay, better training, and the equipment they need. But if criminals aren’t consistently prosecuted and held accountable, those efforts are undermined. Public safety depends on every part of the justice system doing its job.
I’ve also heard concerns from citizens about cases where charges were never filed despite what appeared to be compelling evidence, and about cases where prosecutions did not move forward. Those experiences have left many residents questioning whether our justice system is working as it should.
That’s why I am proud to endorse Mike Roberts for Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney.
I know Mike personally. He believes, as I do and as many of you do, that the revolving door must end. He understands that supporting law enforcement means more than simply saying “Back the Blue”… but it also means ensuring the work our officers do leads to accountability in the courtroom.
Mike Roberts brings the experience our county needs. As a former Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, someone who has worked alongside law enforcement, and an attorney with years of experience in private practice, he understands both the legal system and the real-world impact crime has on victims, families, and our communities.
His goal is simple: hold criminals accountable, support law enforcement, protect victims, and make Jasper County a safer place to live, work, and raise a family.
Safe neighborhoods don’t happen by accident. They happen when police, prosecutors, judges, and the community work together to enforce the law and protect law-abiding citizens.
Citizens are tired of hearing just words, and demand action! Therefore, on August 4, I’m asking you to join me in voting for Mike Roberts for Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney.
Let’s end the revolving door. Let’s restore accountability. Let’s make Jasper County safer and stronger for everyone.
